To pick up a camera and see if I was capable of creating a picture that wasn’t a stinker. During the next 12 months I can honestly say that I learned a lot, and thoroughly enjoyed experimenting and reading about the art of photography. What is the most important thing that I have learned? Probably, that after a year, I know next to nothing and will likely still be rubbish when I am an old man. (you can leave THAT joke at the door, thank you)

What I have achieved; is the satisfaction that I now have two creative outlets in my life and have changed the way I look at the world. It is true, when I take in my surroundings I find myself searching out for interesting colour, composition, dynamic lines and stuff that is unusual. One of the biggest surprises so far, is how much I enjoy creating this Journal. Writing about my experience and being able to browse back over some of the things I’ve done in the last year.

As someone who has not kept a diary (that I would admit to) or had a past which involves any interest in taking pictures constantly, I find this new ability to look back over my experiences and thoughts fascinating; and I want more.

Given that I am moving into a new chapter of my live. I have a new job, new aspirations, I find myself thinking about what it is that I want to achieve during my second year. And this is the part which surprises me most. For the first time I find myself considering things like holidays and travel. Now lets not get carried away, I don’t plan on booking adventures in the Amazon, or wondering the plains of Africa. I would like to see a little more of my country. Can you believe I have never actually been to the Lake District as an adult? I have no idea really, what the next year will bring. A situation, which I kind of like.

Anyway, enough rambling, and on to the photos. Below is a small selecion of the photos that I am most proud of taking during my first year snapping.

Richmond Park in the morning

Whitstable seafront at Dusk

Battersea Power Station from the train.

The Thames at Sunset HDR

Looking down on Soho from my office

On 11th April 2012, I finally decided on a new hobby.
